I’ve always believed the best trips are the ones where a place surprises you — whether it’s a city neighborhood with unexpected charm, a historic site with more stories than faded signs, or a quirky stop you only found because you wandered a little off-route. Kristin Escapes grew out of that kind of curiosity.

My relationship with travel started early, long before I had a suitcase with wheels or a phone with an app that could tell me exactly where to turn. When I was little, my mom used to take me to the AAA travel agency just to pick out travel brochures for fun. I collected them like other kids collected trading cards. She also made sure we visited Walt Disney World at least once a year, even when money was tight. Those trips sparked something in me: a belief that adventures don’t have to be extravagant to be meaningful. I ended up working at Walt Disney World in my early twenties, which taught me a lot about creating memorable experiences — and also how to gracefully dodge strollers.

Today, I focus on sharing practical, thoughtfully crafted guides to the places I explore throughout the American West, Europe, and beyond. My goal is simple: to help you discover destinations worth your time — whether that’s a big city with endless things to do or a small town with exactly one thing to do (but it’s a really good thing). When I’m not exploring someplace new, you’ll probably find me reading (usually mysteries, crime fiction, or hard sci-fi), spoiling my labradoodle Tycho, or debating the merits of brownies versus chocolate milkshakes (I strongly believe both are classics).
